Science Field Day 2018

This year as last year, I went to Science Field Day, however this year is on the 17th of March, and with my new partner for the event. We are doing "Reach For The Sky", topic on astronomy. Reach For The Sky is in Phase 1, right after the Open Assembly. In Reach for the Sky, it is like Periodic Properties, except that for the test, we are allowed to have a cheat sheet with us, and that the topic is on astronomy. We were to research about 5 topics: Scientific Calculations, Planetary and Stellar Classification, Stellar Evolution, and Solar Phenomena. We put all on the cheat sheet, including information about the planets.

Right in the morning, I got the local high school as of the one I went an year ago. Again many people were there signing in, and waiting to sign in. I waited in line, also waiting for my partner. I finished signing in, and my partner arrived a few minutes later.

We were soon escorted in the auditorium (not the Gym) and the welcome speech took place. When the welcome speech ended, we went room B113 where we waited awhile for the other competitors to arrive. We got a packet (a test), and we took out our cheat sheet and the Phase started. The moment we looked at the test we were hit hard. Our cheat sheet had nothing that the test had, only for two problems. So we guess and check our answers twice before submitting. There were 10 multiple choices and 11 matchings, and one tiebreaker which is a question about a star with a great mass and its star cycle. We were sad, and depressed-we worked on the the cheat sheet for a whole day, and the test was nothing that are cheat sheet had! Despite that we went to the Filler Events (Which by the way, last year these filler events were cancelled), Sounds of Music which was in the auditorium, where we only saw the ending.

So Phase 2 started quickly after that, and so then we went to the Scientific Jokes/Trivia, where a Science Field Day person told us about jokes that makes sense in Scientific terms (see bottom of page). He also told us about some actual facts on biology, chemistry, and physical science. He made the Phase go by so fast.

And so Phase 3 came along. We went to another filler event and this one was the Chemistry Magic Show. The 'magician', showed us many magic tricks (rather I call them science), and even taught us some cool things, but still they weren't magic. Anyways it was still fun to watch, and trying to roast him at the same time.

The BECAP. Teams from schools came to compete, but as always our school made it to the Advanced, but before that, it was lunch. At lunch I devoured a delicious Costco Chicken Bake. And a bottle of juice.  YUM! Soon the Advanced BECAP began. Our school was fighting for first place, but schools fighting for third went first. When our school competed, it went 16 minutes straight. But we made it. Our school won the BECAP!!! They cleared the tables and soon announced the winners. Our school got a lot of medals, but at the end we lost to same school last year, and at second place again. I had vowed my whole weekend to defeat them!! But apparently we failed. I got so into it that I even created an unofficial motto for the school, "Long Win the EAGLES!!" (our school's symbol is an eagle). However, after the ceremony, me and my partner had planned on what to do next year, and will start preparing ourselves, giving us a whole year of planning to do. Doing this can get the medal we didn't get this time and maybe.....................Defeat the Long Old Rival!!!!!

LONG WIN THE EAGLES!!!

This year's medal. My partner and I didn't get any.

Jokes included:      What was Oxygen and Potassium's Date?    It went OK.

What is an altitude for acids?      Amino Acids.

Cell-ebrate Science Field Day!!
