Father's Day

The story of Father's Day: how it became the third Sunday of June.

The first idea of celebrating Father's Day came from the United States of America, and in 1966, this special day was officially selected to be on the third Sunday of every June. Many people believed that it was Sonora Dodd from Washington State, came with the idea of Father's Day, after hearing a Mother's Day sermon in 1910. Sonora Dodd and her siblings were been raised by their father after their mother had died. Soon Dodd had began a campaign to have Father's Day an official holiday. The first Father's Day celebration was held on Spokane in 1910.
Many other people believed that it Grace Golden Clayton from West Virginia. It was believed that she had suggested that day of celebrating dads in 1908. She had argued that children needs time to remember their fathers, and their work. It was said that Clayton had been inspired by Anna Jarvis's works. American presidents supported the holiday but unofficially, until in 1966 when President Lyndon, the thirty-sixth president, had made it an official US holiday. In 1972 President Richard Nixon, the thirty-seventh president had made Father's Day an official permanent worldwide holiday, but people in the UK were dissatisfied by the day that Father's Day landed (it did not go along with their celebrations of Father's Day).

To all father's: HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!

Now all over the world people are celebrating their Fathers. Here are some interesting facts about Father's Day:

-In UK fathers can get breakfast in bed and get homemade cards
-In Germany Father's Day are known as Vatertag (Father's Day) or Männertag (men's day)
-some places groups of dads would go into the forests with beer, wines, and poultry
-China celebrates Father's Day in August 8 because in Chinese the eight is pronounced 'ba', and the Chinese for dad is 'ba-ba', and so 'ba-ba' sounds like August 8th in Chinese so that why they celebrated it on that day
-Father's Day had been placed on the third Sunday of June in line with the UK and US

Sorry, for stepdads, there are no stepdad day, but you can like Anna Jarvis, Grace Golden, or Sonora Dodd, and maybe you can create one and make it into an official holiday
